Legal and Compliance Officer

Placement : TIMOR LESTE

Salary : USD 500-600 per month

Scope of Work (SoW):

• Liaise and maintain communication with BCTL (Banco Central de Timor Leste) and other relevant authorities.

• Prepare, compile, and submit regulatory and compliance reports as required by local regulation.

• Ensure the company’s operation complies with Timor Leste laws, especially in the remittance and payment technology sector.

• Support management in monitoring legal risks and implementing compliance policies.

• Maintain and update documentation related to licenses, permits, and correspondence with authorities.

• Assist in reviewing contracts, MOUs, and other legal documents as needed.

• Coordinate with internal departments to ensure adherence to anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) regulations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Law, or related field.

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Legal, Compliance, or Regulatory Affairs (experience in banking, fintech, or payment industry preferred).

• Good understanding of regulatory frameworks in remittance, e-money, or digital payment systems.

• Familiarity with cross-border transactions and reporting requirements to central banks.

• Strong communication skills in English (Portuguese or Tetum will be an advantage) and of course, fluent in Bahasa too.

• Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of handling multiple tasks independently.

• Ability to work effectively with government agencies and financial regulators.

• Willing to be based full-time in TIMOR LESTE.
